A low level rumbling noise could be heard just before the shaking began. I was sitting at my work desk, first the displays started shaking then the chair started to move underneath me. I could clearly feel sideways motion as well as up-down motion. My wife heard the timber in the attic screech, furniture was shaking and cracking. The chandelier was swinging 30cms side to side and the Christmas tree was swinging side to side with ornaments jumping up and down.+1
